GRETA THUNBERG

Young people and the future are synonymous. The future, primarily biologically, belongs to them. Always has. In a planet, however, less rich in resources and with new problems, this relationship has become less obvious. The future, at least as we knew it in the latter part of the 20th century-when it was obvious that new generations had a better quality of life than previous ones (at least in the West, and for many)-simply no longer exists. For young people, activating for change has become a priority today. In this sense, an interesting story is that of Greta Thunberg, the 15-year-old Swedish girl who chose to strike from class and sit under Parliament to force politicians to act on climate change. She, like thousands of her fellow citizens, has also seen acres of forest burn in Sweden this summer: hundreds of trees and barren land turned into walls of fire partly because of global warming.

Greta was able to flesh out her protest through climate strike, the climate change strike. Her action caught the attention not only of other young people but of a broad community aware of the urgency of the issue. Greta then made her voice heard at COP24, the United Nations climate change conference held in Katowice, Poland. The student, who Time listed as one of the world's most influential teenagers in 2018, lectured the world's powerful. Young people with their energy and creativity will be the rel agents of change. They will be the ones to achieve the goals of sustainable development and build a better future for people and the environment.

Giovani e futuro sono sinonimi. Il futuro, in primo luogo biologicamente, appartiene a loro. Da sempre. In un pianeta, però, meno ricco di risorse e dai problemi nuovi, questa relazione è diventata meno scontata. Il futuro, almeno come lo abbiamo conosciuto nella seconda parte del XX secolo - quando era ovvio che le nuove generazioni avessero una qualità della vita migliore delle precedenti (almeno in occidente, e per molti) - semplicemente non esiste più. Per i ragazzi attivarsi per il cambiamento è diventata oggi una priorità. In questo senso una storia interessante è quella di Greta Thunberg, la ragazzina svedese di 15 anni che ha scelto di scioperare dalle lezioni e sedersi sotto il Parlamento per costringere i politici ad agire sul cambiamento climatico. Anche lei, come migliaia di suoi concittadini, ha visto questa estate bruciare in Svezia ettari di foreste: centinaia di alberi e terreni aridi trasformati in muri di fuoco anche a causa del riscaldamento globale. Greta è stata capace di dare corpo alla sua protesta grazie al climate strike, lo sciopero per il climate change. La sua azione ha attirato l'attenzione non solo di altri giovani ma di un'ampia comunità consapevole dell'urgenza del problema. Greta ha poi fatto sentire la sua voce a COP24, la conferenza delle Nazioni Unite sul cambiamento climatico che si è svolta a Katowice in Polonia. La studentessa, che il Time ha inserito nella lista delle teenager più influenti al mondo nel 2018, ha impartito una lezione ai potenti del mondo. I giovani con la loro energia e la loro creatività saranno i veri agenti di cambiamento. Saranno loro a raggiungere gli obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile e a costruire un futuro migliore per l'uomo e l'ambiente.
